Why Lily and Myrtle

This is a question we get asked a lot.

It was such a difficult task to choose our name. There are many beautiful flowers to choose from but from my love of flowers and their history l was inspired.

Flowers have always played an important role in my life but also through lifetimes.

They have been a symbol of love, appreciation, and celebration for centuries.

But even in modern times flowers can also convey a message without words, making them a powerful tool in expressing emotions. Giving a bouquet of flowers can communicate a wide range of sentiments.

My particular choice of flowers was influenced by the Victorian era. They believed that every bloom had a meaning – Floriography: The Secret Language of flowers.

Amaryllis – Splendid Beauty

Buttercup – Memory of childhood

Pink Carnation – l will never forget you

Dahlia – Elegance

Jasmine – Grace and Elegance

And of course…

Lily – Purity and Sweetness

Myrtle – Love, Fertility and Innocence

A flower fact …

In each of the royal marriages that have taken place since the reign of Queen Victoria, the Myrtle is cut from a bush that resides at Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight. It is still in the gardens today.

In addition to their symbolic meanings, flowers have many health benefits. They can lower stress levels, improve mood, and promote relaxation. Being in nature and surrounded by beautiful flowers can have a calming effect.

“Happiness held is the seed; Happiness shared is the flower.”

– John Harrigan

And if l tell you the other reason Lily and Myrtle was chosen … We imagine ourselves as Lily and Myrtle, two older ladies full of wisdom and knowledge sitting on a bench chatting and laughing. We are already great at the chatting and laughing bit but the sitting we still have to learn!
