A Day Among Dahlias: Our Trip to Froggetts Farm

A few weeks ago, my lovely students surprised me with the perfect treat. After many years of teaching floristry, they whisked me away for a fabulous day out. I was given an address, not quite knowing what to expect. We arrived at Froggetts Farm Flowers in Walliswood and were greeted with a warm welcome from the lovely Clare and her friend, who looked after us from start to finish.

We kicked things off with a cuppa and a slice of homemade cake. Honestly, what better way to start a day in the countryside?

Wandering the Dahlia Fields

After tea, we strolled through the most incredible dahlia fields. The colours, the shapes, the sheer variety were breathtaking. We made our way to the yurt, where Clare shared her story. What began as a hobby quickly became a passion. Clare spoke with such heart about how her flower farm came to be. It was inspiring to hear how a move from London to the Surrey countryside led to something so meaningful and creative.

Pick Your Own Paradise

Once we had relaxed and taken it all in, Clare let us loose in the fields. We each picked around 10 to 15 stems of our favourite dahlias to take home. The options were endless, but anyone who knows me won’t be surprised that I started in the orange section. Each person came away with a completely different mix. That was the magic of it. Every bunch reflected someone’s personal style and eye for colour.

A Truly Joyful Day

We spent the morning chatting, laughing, and admiring each other’s flowers. It was the perfect reminder of why we love what we do. Being surrounded by friends and flowers in such a peaceful setting was a real gift.
